Dania got to be 'the moon' this year in the christmas celebration. Every year a different child is selected as 'the moon' and 'an angel' while the young teenaged girls dress up in blue and dance an old traditional dance. They lead a procession of villagers holding candles which goes through the streets to each house and to the beach. The people of La Barra welcome visitors to their village and surrounding beach and lagoon with warmth and friendliness. They are friendly people who value the peaceful beauty of their lives in this fishing village. The children and family life are a main focus in everyday life. Many special days are celebrated where everyone is invited. Help the children practice their english skills (many are studying english with us in the children's library and at the school) with a hearty 'hello, how are you!' and enjoy their smiles and sweet answers. They love to practice by greeting our visitors.
